145 museum organisations from across the country took part in the survey - 140 of them provided comparable results for the period June-August 2025 and 2026.

"7.4 million visits in just three summer months show what a strong position the museums have," says Gunnar Ardelius, secretary-general of Sweden's Museums, in a press release.

He also notes that Sweden is listed in the Guinness Book of Records 2027 as the country with the highest museum density in the world, with 1,600 museums for a population of 10.6 million.

Almost a third of the organisations in the survey, 40, have offered free admission. Among these, the number of visits increased by 30 percent compared with the same period in 2025.
