The 25-year-old man has been found guilty of two counts of murder, 23 counts of attempted murder and 22 counts of bodily harm, 19 of which were serious, according to the Munich court.

The court found that the crimes were particularly serious - a classification that under German law makes it significantly less likely that the man will ever be released from prison.

The man drove into a union demonstration of 1,400 people in February last year. According to prosecutors, he was driven by religious extremism.

A 37-year-old woman and her young daughter were thrown by the impact and sustained such serious injuries that they later died.
