Mixed water masses have caused major damage from the Málaga province in the south to Valencia in the east. A high-speed train has derailed near Málaga with nearly 300 people on board. According to the authorities, however, no one was injured. Trains between Valencia and Madrid have been cancelled.
In the region of Castile-La Mancha, six people are missing. In the town of Alcúdia in the Valencia province, a lorry driver is missing, and several people are trapped in their homes, reports the Spanish public service company RTVE.
Police and rescue services are using helicopters to lift people out of flooded houses. The army's rescue unit has also been called in.
The heavy rainfall and storm will continue until Thursday, according to the meteorological authority Aemet, which has issued a red warning, the highest level, reports Málaga Hoy.
