Starting today, Thursday, Swedish diesel drivers will experience higher prices at the gas station. The tax on gasoline will now be increased by 1.03 kronor per liter including VAT. Diesel will also become 40 öre more expensive as a result of the government's temporary reduction in tax on fossil fuels ending.
Export ban not ruled out
Internationally, the situation is also grim, with several factors that could have an impact. President Donald Trump said during Wednesday's press conference at the White House that his interest in imposing an export ban on American diesel has decreased, but it cannot be ruled out.
It could "help" the price of diesel but could also mean higher prices for other things, he said, referring to price levels for American households.
But we are in a good situation because oil prices are going down, he said.
Slightly down
The price of Brent oil has indeed crept down somewhat compared with a week ago, when a barrel cost around $105; the current price is $97. The futures price of diesel was at the same time around $1,500 per barrel on Wednesday - a doubling compared with the level before the Iran war began.
The White House is also reported to have complained to several European nations for not jointly and to a greater extent releasing the oil reserves they hold in order to thereby push down the price, according to the Bloomberg news agency.
Allowed to import oil
Russia, which was the world's second-largest exporter of diesel before sanctions linked to the Ukraine war were imposed, has at the same time decided to extend the export ban by one month, writes the Financial Times.
Russia made this decision in July as a result of Ukrainian attacks on refineries. This has in turn led to an energy crisis in Russia and forced it to import oil from India, normally one of the country's largest buyers of oil.
