Fighting raged during the night to Wednesday in, among other places, the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, according to eyewitnesses.
The Israeli military claims that its air force has hit a rocket launch site in the area.
A spokesperson for the Hamas-controlled civil defence authority in Gaza tells AFP that they have retrieved "15 martyrs from different areas of Rafah city in the past few hours".
However, the intensity of the fighting seems to be easing somewhat, days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the "intensive phase" of the fighting was about to end.
In the northern parts of Gaza, at least four people – including three children – have been killed in an attack early on Wednesday, according to the Hamas-controlled civil defence authority and medical personnel in Gaza. The attack reportedly targeted a house in the city of Beit Lahia.
Apart from that, "almost no attacks" are reported and "the rest of the areas in Gaza are calm compared to yesterday", according to a spokesperson for the civil defence authority.
