The state will receive 35.6 million kronor in compensation for the Coast Guard's cleanup after a large oil spill off Blekinge. The cleanup took place two years ago, after the ship Marco Polo ran aground.

The insurance company is responsible for the payment.

“Damage to the environment has a high price, it is important that it is visible what it costs,” comments Nina Andersson, head of the Swedish Coast Guard's legal unit, in a press release .

At least 60,000 liters of oil leaked into the sea. The Coast Guard has also demanded 1.2 million SEK in water pollution fees, but this has been appealed by the shipping company TT-Line to the Stockholm District Court.
