MP and V are putting forward a committee initiative to change the law so that young adults who grew up with their family in Sweden will not be subject to deportation when they turn 18.
"It is completely unreasonable to defend the family separations happening right now. I'dont think there is support for it," Annika Hirvonen (MP) tells SVT.
Media outlets have reported on a number of cases where young people are to be deported. One reason is that “particularly distressing circumstances” were removed as a basis for residence permits in 2023.
S will not join the initiative.
"I have understood from the Minister of Migration's statements that the government is considering a safety valve for this group," writes Ida Karkiainen, who says that S is prepared to cooperate if such a proposal is presented.
