The possibility for asylum seekers to obtain permanent residence permits should be removed, as now proposed in a legislative proposal. Temporary residence permits should be the rule instead.
The main rule is currently that only temporary residence permits are granted to those in need of protection. However, after a certain period, permanent permits can still be granted.
The proposal concerns anyone who is a refugee, in need of alternative protection, or resettled in Sweden.
The possibility is also removed for those who are granted a residence permit due to particularly distressing circumstances, for people who cannot be deported because of so-called obstacles to enforcement, and for those granted permits because of family ties.
