He passed away on Monday at a hospital in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for heart problems.

Darren broke through in the early 1960s as a singer, actor, and teenage idol. He is known, among other things, from the surf comedy "Gidget", the war film "The Guns of Navarone", and in later years, the acclaimed drama "Lucky" with Harry Dean Stanton. He also had recurring roles in the TV detective series "TJ Hooker" and the science fiction series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". During his career, he also released about ten albums.

He was married twice, the second time in 1960 to Miss Denmark, Evy Norlund.

"He was a good man. He was very talented. He was eternally young", says his son Jim Moret in a statement.

James Darren was 88 years old.
