Littering in the areas around Kebnekaise, Grövelsjön, Helags and Sylarna has decreased by over 70 percent in the last four years, reports SVT Västerbotten.

It is the Håll Sverige rent foundation that, together with the Svenska Turistföreningen, has been measuring the littering since 2020.

One reason is that the number of visitors has decreased since the influx during the pandemic years.

Andreas Karlsson, manager at naturum in Hemavan, sees that the littering is decreasing also in Vindelfjällen and points to an increased number of foreign tourists.

We have many more visitors from the Netherlands and Germany and they are more used to not having the large space we have in Sweden, but you take with you, he says to the channel.

The absolutely most common litter in the mountains is snus, which accounted for around a third of the litter.
