A woman in Denmark has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her newborn baby.
In court in Næstved on southern Zealand, the woman admitted to causing the child's death, but she denied the criminal charge, according to the prosecutor. She is being held in custody until January 16.
The police were alerted to a community outside Næstved at around 17:30 on Friday. At the address, the newborn baby was found lifeless.
In this type of case, the act may sometimes fall under a different paragraph in the penal code than for murder. This applies if the investigation, for example, shows that the act was committed under mental derangement due to childbirth. Then the maximum penalty is four years, compared to life imprisonment for murder.
