Police were alerted in November last year that a man and a woman had been injured outdoors in Västerås. The woman was so badly injured that she died in hospital, while her son survived.
The suspect is in his 60s and has previously had a relationship with the woman.
"The investigation shows that one motive for the murder was to preserve or restore his own or his family's honor," says senior prosecutor Ann-Sofie Trossing in a press release.
The man is also charged with aggravated unlawful threats against their common daughter and with other crimes against the murdered woman earlier this fall.
