In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index was up 0.1 percent, while the broader Topix index was up 0.6 percent shortly after lunch.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was simultaneously up 0.2 percent.
In Shanghai and Shenzhen, the composite indexes were traded below zero, at minus 0.1 and 0.2 percent, respectively.
South Korea's Kospi was up 0.8 percent.
