Most Swedish Companies Do Not Report Crimes to Police

The majority of Swedish companies that have been exposed to crime never report it to the police, shows a new study from Brå.

Companies in the construction industry that are often affected by theft or burglary report to the highest extent that they make a police report, while companies that are exposed to fraud and data breaches report to the least extent, according to the Crime Prevention Council (Brå).

The most common crimes against companies are theft or burglary and fraud.

The study is based on a survey that has been answered by 6,500 companies. Of these, a total of 40 percent answer that they have been exposed to crime. Most exposed is the hotel and restaurant industry, where 60 percent have been affected.

Larger companies are at higher risk of being exposed to crime and also companies that operate in troubled surrounding areas, according to the survey.
