”These artists are icons in their various genres and it's very fun that they all gather on the Allsång stage. With both international stars and Swedish audience favorites, the premiere promises an evening filled with nostalgia, new music and singing joy”, says Haida Jamshidi, project manager and executive producer, in a press release.

Morrissey, who also plays at Hovet in Stockholm on June 23, has in recent years been in a storm for several statements on the far right in British politics and, among other things, expressed sympathy for the activist Tommy Robinson, who founded the xenophobic English Defence League.

Morrissey's political journey to the right has made many who previously praised the artist for his music distance themselves from him.

But SVT thinks that his artistic expression and musical heritage nonetheless make his participation relevant.

He is one of the most influential artists from the 80s, and his work, especially with The Smiths, has influenced music and pop culture. Allsången is a music program and we strive for a wide and varied range, says Haida Jamshidi to TT.

SVT cannot reveal which songs he will play but promises ”high recognition factor”.

It is already clear that, among others, KAJ, Zara Larsson, Daniela Rathana, and Medina are some of the artists on the stage this year. The premiere of the program is on Tuesday, June 24.
