At least 76 people have died as migrants tried to cross from Morocco to Ceuta, hoping to reach Europe, according to the Spanish government. Many are said to have drowned while trying to swim around a breakwater.
By Saturday morning, almost all migrants had left Ceuta and the situation has largely returned to normal, according to Spain's Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
At least 70 people have been arrested in Morocco. The arrested people are being investigated for attempted murder, arson and vandalism, among other charges, according to the Efe news agency. The crimes are linked to clashes with security forces near the border, on the Moroccan side.
