The match was Möregårdh's first after a break due to a knee injury. The 23-year-old was recently forced to decline the European Team Championships in Croatia.
Against Källberg he won with the scores 11–9, 11–4, 11–9.
It's a boring draw in many ways, but I'm of course happy to win 3-0. I'm happy to be back, says the world number five in the victory interview on SVT's broadcast.
Meeting friend
In the end, Källberg, ranked number 16 in the world, had little to hold on to. Trailing 0–3 in the third set, Källberg took a timeout after Möregårdh won 14 of the last 16 balls.
Although the 28-year-old came as close as a 9–10 deficit, Möregårdh took a timeout and immediately decided for victory with a clear 3–0 in the set.
In the round of 16 of the Champions tournament on the world tour in France, the German Dimitrij Ovtcharov awaits, who was recently in Malmö and trained with the Swede ahead of his comeback. The match will be played on Friday evening.
"We are very good friends. We have known each other for many years, even though he is a little older. He is a fantastic player that I have looked up to for many years," says Möregårdh.
No other Swedes qualified for the world tour competition in Montpellier, where 32 players are participating in the men's and women's classes.
“Shock news”
Recently, it was announced that several of the top Chinese have withdrawn from the competition. For example, world number one Wang Chuqin and world number two Lin Shidong.
"It was a bit of a shock news. It opens up quite a lot in the Champions competitions. There aren't many non-Chinese who have won them either. It's a chance for everyone to be able to take some fun title," Möregårdh told TT last week.
The Swede became the first non-Chinese to win a grand smash competition – the highest level on the world tour – in Malmö in August.
