The set scores were 11-7, 11-9, 3-11, 11-8 and 11-9.
The 24-year-old made it to the final after several tough matches, including a victory over Japanese player Tomokazu Harimoto in the semifinals in a thrilling seven-set match.
"That match prepared me a lot for the final. But I believed in myself throughout the tournament. I'm crazy happy now," he says in SVT's broadcast.
“It had become difficult”
The title is Möregårdh's second WTT Champions title. The first came in Montpellier in 2025. The Swede had great support from the crowd, which he took the opportunity to praise after the victory.
It was fantastic today. I always love playing big matches. And when there is such a large crowd, like here today, I am so happy to be able to play table tennis. Without this crowd it would have been difficult, says Möregårdh.
Final opponent Hugo Calderano is one of the players the Swede defeated on his way to the Olympic final in Paris in 2024. The Brazilian is one of the world's top players and is seventh in the world rankings. Möregårdh is fifth in the same ranking.
Get over half a million
The Swede will be rewarded with $60,000 for the victory, which is equivalent to over half a million kronor. The final victory in Macao was a great revenge for the major competition Europe Smash in Malmö a month ago, where Möregårdh, as the reigning champion, was eliminated in the first round.
Big thanks to my coach and mom and dad. My loved ones have supported me all the way. Even when I wasn't at my peak right away, a few weeks ago. I never thought this before I went there, I'm so happy, he says.
Möregårdh now awaits continued play on the world tour, where the next major competition is the China Smash in early October against the absolute world elite.
The tournament's other Swede, Anton Källberg, was eliminated in the semifinals against Hugo Calderano.
