Truls Möregårdh entered the China Smash as one of the tournament's big favorites. But the world No. 5 had a tough start and was put under serious pressure from the very first match.
The Swede lost the first set but responded by winning the next two. He then lost the fourth set, sending the match to a fifth and deciding set.
That's where the drama unfolded.
Möregårdh and Baldwin Chan took turns earning match points, with the pressure mounting with each point. In the end, the Swede kept his nerve and won the deciding set 20–18.
The match score was 3–2 (9–11, 11–5, 11–9, 10–12, 20–18).
