Möregårdh had never defeated Lin Yun-Ju before Friday's meeting in Hong Kong. After two sets, there was little to suggest a break in the trend.
The Swede got off to a nightmare start and was on his way out of the major tournament.
Then came the mighty turn.
Möregårdh won four straight sets against the increasingly discouraged Taiwanese.
He has been difficult for me. I am happy that I managed to crack the code this time. I had problems at the beginning, but I continued to believe in it, says the Swedish world number four in the victory interview on the inner court.
For SVT he develops:
I'm really happy with how mentally strong I was. Even when it looked tough, I stayed calm.
Möregårdh already has two wins on the World Tour this year, in Malmö and Montpellier. Now he has the chance to end 2025 by taking home the heaviest victory of his career.
But then he has to start by yelling at Wang Chuqin again.
In the 2024 Olympics, he very surprisingly knocked out the Chinese world number one in the second round.
Can he do it again?
It would have been sad to say that it wasn't possible. Then it's hard to do it in front of that audience. I know I'll have zero people with me, says Möregårdh.
