In the eighth round on Friday, Truls Möregårdh faced German Benedikt Duda and won comfortably. German opposition was also present on Saturday, but it became significantly tougher.
The Swedish star faced world number eight Patrick Franziska, but lost 4–3 in sets. Thus, Möregårdh is eliminated and missed the chance to win the WTT tournament in Incheon, South Korea, which lacked all the top-ranked Chinese players.
Möregårdh started well and seemed to easily take the first set when he went ahead 10–5. But then the German took over completely, winning seven consecutive points and taking the lead 1–0 in sets.
And it didn't get easier afterwards. Although Möregårdh took the subsequent set, he had trouble reading the German's cunning serves and became occasionally too passive.
Something that would prove to be costly. Franziska went ahead and won the two subsequent sets to 1–3.
A lead that Möregårdh indeed managed to take back, but in the seventh and decisive set, the German was ultimately too tough. The seventh set ended 13–11, after a thrilling conclusion.
The final result was 4–3 in sets to the German world number eight, who advanced to the semifinal.
