Möregårdh and Ranefur cruise into the European Championships doubles playoffs with straight-sets win

Truls Möregårdh and Elias Ranefur advanced after their opening match in the men’s doubles at the European Championships in Slovenia. They beat Britain’s Liam Pitchford and Samuel Walker in three straight sets.

Möregårdh, ranked fourth in the world, and Ranefur, ranked 28th, won without major difficulty.

The Swedes took the first set 11–6. They had an even clearer advantage in the second, winning 11–5. They won the third set 11–8 to complete the victory.

After the match, the Swedes were satisfied.

“A lot happens when we play, and we cause the opponents a lot of trouble,” Ranefur said. He thought Truls had the strangest shots.

Truls Möregårdh disagreed.

“No, Elias probably has even scarier moves, and if we can combine our moves, it will be fun,” he said.

The victory means the Swedes have now qualified for the playoffs. The draw will take place this evening.
