It was a tough match to play. I had a little problem with his serve. Then it was another hall now that was a little different. But my forehand is nothing to hang on the Christmas tree now, says Möregårdh to SVT.

Truls Möregårdh won the first set against Francisco Sanchi (11–8) and started best even in the second. But the Argentine played up and turned the underdog 5–8 to set victory 12–10.

At least as tight was it. Then Möregårdh was strongest and won 13–11 to take the lead 2–1 in sets.

Showed class

The lead would be short-lived as the cunning Argentine equalized to 2–2 after being in underdog, turned and then went away to set victory 11–6.

The equal score would, however, be short-lived – as Möregårdh seemed determined and showed class. 11–2 in the subsequent set and then finished the match with 11–5 in the sixth and decisive.

Thus, he is on to the singles tournament – today's second advancement for the 23-year-old. Earlier, he and Anton Källberg advanced to the quarterfinals in doubles.

Even here, it was Argentine opposition in the form of Horacio Cifuentes and Santiago Lorenzo, whom they eventually managed to defeat with 4–1 in sets after some effort.

"Top favorites"

In the quarterfinals, the French star duo, the Lebrun brothers, await.

They are top favorites, says Möregårdh to SVT.

When the Lebrun brothers took the European Championship gold in doubles last fall, it was after a final victory against just Möregårdh/Källberg. That time, the Frenchmen were completely superior and won in three straight sets.

They train doubles very often. It's clear it's going to be tough. But we play good ping-pong and hopefully, we can give them, says Truls Möregårdh to SVT.
