Just over 1,400 people were detained during the events in France over the weekend, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said in an interview with BFMTV.
267 police officers were injured, three of them seriously, as were “more than 250” protesters, according to the minister. France’s center-right government accuses far-left factions of infiltrating the demonstrations and resorting to violence against police and security forces. The police and security forces are, in turn, accused of widespread violence.
