High school students in France have been protesting since last week against, among other things, scheduling, class sizes and teacher shortages.
The protests began in the Paris area and have spread to a wide range of cities, while becoming increasingly violent.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has condemned the “throwing of projectiles, violent crimes, verbal attacks, attempted arson” directed at police officers, saying at least 83 officers were injured during protests at 356 schools on Wednesday alone. 625 people have been detained.
Since the protests began, 119 students and school employees have been injured, including in Lille, where police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators.
