More than 140 million people are feared to be affected as a major snowstorm sweeps across the US. More than 8,000 flights have been canceled or delayed.

From New Mexico in the south to New England in the northeastern United States, weather warnings have now been issued.

During the night into Saturday, Texas was affected, while areas around Washington and New York are expected to receive up to 30 centimeters of snow as the storm advances north.

The country's air traffic is being severely affected. On Saturday, just over 3,000 flights were canceled or delayed, and on Sunday, 5,000 flights are expected to be canceled.

It was already clear on Saturday that several schools in Philadelphia, for example, would be closed on Monday. Many church services that were supposed to be held this weekend will now be held online.
