The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) wants more than 120,000 volunteers to help operate shelters in residential areas in the event of war, reports SR Ekot.

The agency, which previously went by the abbreviation MSB, wants people to help neighbors find shelters and get them ready, among other things.

Some municipalities, together with voluntary organizations, will test the system during the year.

"Of course, we should start with the voluntary defense organizations, with the Civil Defense Association, the Red Cross, but you can also think of other solutions: sports clubs or village teams if they are located in more sparsely populated areas," says Henrik Larsson, MCF, on the radio.

However, civil servants or public employees must staff shelters in caves and public buildings.
