Two of the latest suspects are municipal officials responsible for security issues, reports the Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA. A municipal official responsible for construction and a former mayor of nearby Chermignon are also being investigated.

This means a total of 13 people, including the two owners of the fire-ravaged bar, are suspected of negligence, among other things. Counsel for the plaintiff, Sébastien Fanti, believes there could be more.

Other members of the public sector will undoubtedly be closely scrutinized, he says.

Forty-one people – the majority were teenagers – died in the fire in the ski resort of Crans-Montana on New Year's Eve. Of the 115 injured, around 40 are still being treated in hospital, AFP writes.
