94 percent of students have access to school libraries, about the same number as in 2024. However, the proportion with access to a staffed school library has increased from 80 to 88 percent. The average staffing time has also increased from 14 to 16 hours a week. 46 percent of students have access to a school librarian with a degree in library and information science.
Anna Troberg, chairwoman of the trade union DIK, sees the lack of trained librarians as part of the reading crisis. She calls for more librarians in schools and more resources for school libraries.
"It is high time to increase training places for librarians and earmark money for school libraries," she says in an email to TT.
