"This is European law enforcement taking steps into the future together," said EU Home Affairs Commissioner Magnus Brunner in a press release about Wednesday's proposal to expand mandates for judicial cooperation at Europol and Eurojust.

The idea is to set up support offices in each member state, staffed by police officers with previous experience at Europol. Cooperation between member states' police forces will also be accelerated and improved via a dedicated cloud, while a dedicated technical service will support the development of new tools.

Europol and Eurojust are headquartered in The Hague and coordinate cooperation among police in EU countries, but do not conduct their own investigations.
