A voter in Nynäshamn discovered that the system allowed two votes to be registered for the same person. The first sign of the error came on August 31.
It was discovered by chance, Rebecca Skoglund, head of the Nynäshamn municipality, told DN.
According to the Election Authority, the incorrectly registered votes were not due to the same technical error, but to how the vote counters were handled. They had missed what they were supposed to do when a vote was registered.
A block was built into the system to prevent this type of double registration.
The Election Authority is now reviewing early voting in the country's municipalities. So far, it has been determined that at least 214 municipalities have not been affected, but the list is being updated continuously.
