At least 33 people have died in the widespread flooding that has hit southern Thailand. A state of emergency has been declared in Songkhla province since Tuesday, pending more rain.

According to authorities, more than 1,200 people have been evacuated. In several areas, the water is waist-deep and many are unable to reach rescue from their homes and hotels.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has promised that more boats and trucks will be deployed in the rescue effort.
