Two young women have so far died from meningitis, a contagious bacterial disease. The outbreak has been linked to a nightclub in Canterbury in connection with a student event.

Nine cases are laboratory confirmed, while eleven are still under investigation, according to the health authority.

People considered to be at risk are being offered preventive antibiotics.

"It's almost like during the coronavirus pandemic here. People are wearing face masks, keeping their distance, and many are afraid to go to school," said 17-year-old Maja Welleus, who is visiting Canterbury with her high school class from Nacka, to SvD.
