Of the students who left compulsory school this spring, 83.6 percent of boys qualified for a national upper secondary school programme. Among girls, the figure was 83.4 percent.
Overall, the proportion of pupils qualifying for upper secondary school decreased slightly, from 84.1 percent to 83.5 percent. This means that 16.5 percent of ninth-graders left compulsory school this spring without an upper secondary school qualification.
The National Agency for Education's compilation also shows that the proportion of students who received a passing grade has increased in most subjects compared with the previous academic year. However, mathematics is the clear exception. In that subject, the proportion receiving a passing grade decreased by 1.1 percentage points.
