Mora Hockey Warns of Bankruptcy Risk as Deficit Could Reach 5.5 Million Kronor

Mora, which plays in Hockeyallsvenskan, is in an acute financial crisis. The club says on its website that it expects a large deficit. “A concerted effort is now underway to secure short-term liquidity,” chairman Peter Karlsson says in a statement.

According to Mora's website, the deficit is expected to reach 5.5 million kronor this year if no measures are taken. The biggest difference compared with last year is transfer revenue, which is expected to be around six million kronor lower.

"The financial crisis has several causes," says Peter Karlsson.

He continues:

"For several years, financial management has failed, leadership has been unclear and continuity has been lacking. At the same time, a cost culture has developed in which expenses have not been adapted to the club's financial situation."

Mikael Ahlerup is Mora's acting club director.

"Turning this into a zero result by the end of April is not realistic," he says.

Ahlerup says the club management's most urgent task is to secure liquidity so that Mora can meet its payment obligations.

"Otherwise, bankruptcy is a risk," he says.

Peter Karlsson believes the historic club will need substantial financial support from partners, supporters and "the entire community" to survive.
