The USA's credit rating has been downgraded by the credit rating company Moody's, which refers to an increase in the American national debt.

Moody's lowered the rating on Friday from AAA to Aa1. A similar downgrade has previously been made by Moody's competitors Fitch Ratings and S&P Global Ratings. This means that the world's largest economy has fallen from the very highest credit rating.
