Dwarf hippopotamus Moo Deng, who last year overturned the internet with her cute face, is turning one year old and it is noticeable in her hometown.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi in Thailand, where Moo Deng lives, is arranging a four-day festival for the anniversary and already early on Thursday, about 100 people gathered to celebrate her.
She is very special to me, she makes me happy, says Jennifer Tang, who took time off from work in Malaysia for the festivities in Thailand, to the news agency AFP.
The first day of celebration includes, among other things, a lecture on "Moo Deng's mischief" and a fruit cake. A skin care specialist sponsored the zoo with 3,000 dollars, equivalent to just over 28,000 kronor for the cake.
The birth of the dwarf hippopotamus last year resulted in a plethora of products with her face on, which eventually led her owners to trademark her image.
The species, which originates from western Africa, is endangered and there are only about 2,500 living individuals today, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
