Buffalo's Swedish captain Rasmus Dahlin did everything he could to give the team a 2-1 lead in the quarterfinal series. The 26-year-old accounted for an assist and a goal and received the most playing time of anyone in Buffalo.
Dahlin's effort, however, didn't go far enough. Buffalo's shots had difficulty finding the target, unlike Montreal's.
"Montreal is a good team and we had to pay for our mistakes," said Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff, according to NHL.com.
Montreal converted one in six shots and sailed to a 6–2 win. This gives them a 2–1 lead in the series.
