Going into tonight's game, the series was tied 3–3 between Montreal and Tampa. The Canadian team scored the first goal of the game late in the first period, but Tampa responded by equalizing in the second period. However, the final score was set with about nine minutes left to play, when Montreal's Alex Newhook scored to make it 2–1.
The NHL season is thus over for Tampa's Swedes, Victor Hedman and Pontus Holmberg. Neither played in tonight's game; they had missed several recent games because of personal reasons and an upper-body injury, respectively.
Montreal is the last team to advance to the Stanley Cup quarterfinals.
