Thobias Montler didn't have his best indoor season and instead took up gardening.

Then he got a World Cup ticket after a number of competitions.

Going from gardening to the World Championships wasn't ideal preparation, but I'm taking seven guys here today, so now I just have to let this go and set my sights on the outdoor season, he says.

The 30-year-old made two mistakes. In the third round he jumped 7.94, which put him tenth and last among those who were also allowed to take a fourth jump.

There he jumped 7.85 and was eliminated. Montler finished tenth.
