The stomach tightened a bit when he entered the World Championship arena in Tokyo. Memories of the Olympic Games 2021 made themselves remembered – but did not stop Thobias Montler. It was a part of a revenge already now, he says after 8.11 meters in the qualifying round and a secured final.

In the Tokyo Olympic Games 2021, he missed a medal by just over a centimeter. In the Paris Olympic Games 2024, Thobias Montler did not even advance from the qualifying round.

The long jump star was out for revenge – and got it.

I thought about it when I went in and looked up and saw the audience. It became a little knot in my stomach when I saw the pit. It was a part of revenge already now, to get to advance. Above all also after the Paris Olympic Games, where I was eliminated, he says.

The 29-year-old got a foul in the first jump and by adjusting the approach, he then secured the final with 8.11 meters.

At the same time as you want to bring this feeling with you, I should probably put it behind me too. In a final, it will require other lengths, he says.

The final will be decided on Wednesday.

To become fourth or to become twelfth – it's the same crap, it doesn't matter. It's the medals we're after. It's just to go for it. If it becomes three fouls, then it becomes three fouls, says Montler.
