The mountain now measures 4,807.47 metres and, according to Jean des Garets, chief surveyor in the Haute-Savoie region, the peak is “constantly changing.”

Since 2001, researchers have measured the mountain’s height every two to three years to try to understand how climate change is affecting the Alps.

The mountain itself rises to around 4,792 metres above sea level, but its covering of ice and snow varies from year to year, meaning its height also varies.
