The EU hopes for a “biotech revolution” with the help of simpler regulations and easier access to money.

A new strategy from the European Commission promises, among other things, a new investment group to bring together ideas and private financiers. Various permit processes will also be made faster and simpler.

"The bioeconomy is not science fiction. It is already here – and I am wearing it," says Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall, wearing a suit made of wood fiber, at a press conference in Brussels.

The strategy includes, for example, updates to regulations regarding bioplastics and building materials and support for the production of biogas.
