”Mondo” won with the bar at 6.02 meters.
It was only Emmanouil Karalis who jumped against Duplantis at that height, but the Greek did not make it and finished second at 5.92 meters.
Kurtis Marschall, Australia, became third at 5.82 meters.
Duplantis had a slightly shaky start, and needed two attempts at both 5.62 and 5.92. At the crucial height of 6.02 meters, however, ”Mondo” managed it on the first attempt.
The 25-year-old then continued to jump, and set the competition record at 6.13 meters on one attempt.
The jumps felt really good today considering how my body felt. It was not quite a full tank, so I'm satisfied with 6.13, says Duplantis after the competition.
Duplantis also attempted the world record at 6.29 meters, but did not have the day. After three failed attempts, it was clear that it would not be a thirteenth world record.
The competition is Duplantis' first since he set the world record at the Diamond League gala at Stockholm Stadium. Then he jumped 6.28 meters.
Samuel Pihlström ran 1,500 meters at the fine time of 3.31.18 and became sixth. Pihlström himself is the only Swede who has run faster on the distance.
