It was at the end of April that the decision became known: Armand Duplantis and his wife, Desiré Inglander, had sold their apartment in Stockholm and moved to Monaco.

Paying taxes in the USA

But unlike when legends Björn Borg and Ingemar Stenmark moved there during their active careers, this is not a move for tax reasons for the Duplantis couple. Just as during his time in Sweden, Armand Duplantis pays taxes in the US as he has not wanted to give up his American citizenship.

The most important thing is that traveling is easier from there. Both Desiré and I travel a lot, and Monaco is a good base. It's an incredible place to be an athlete when it comes to training conditions and so on. We were there when I won male athlete of the year at the end of November, and then we started thinking it would be a nice place to live - relaxed and calm. So then we moved there; we're a bit impulsive in that way, he says.

No star-studded wedding

They got married in Stockholm City Hall this spring and next weekend it's time for the big wedding in Cannes. For a world-class athlete like Armand Duplantis, it hasn't been easy to combine moving, wedding planning and training.

It's been hectic, of course. But we've timed it pretty well - we moved the same week I usually rest. It's been going well; I've had time to train more than you'd think considering how much else I've been doing. There are fun things that have happened and will happen for us - the wedding will be incredibly fun.

But despite the couple's stardom, there's no big wedding coming up.

It's family, friends and of course some pole-vaulting buddies. No rock stars or anything (laughter).

The last competition before the wedding will be today's Diamond League competition at the Stockholm Stadium.
