According to the jury's motivation, Mona Namér is "a versatile dance artist who works broadly in the fields of performing arts, teaching, community building, film production, theatre, directing and photography in a variety of artistic collaborations."
Furthermore, the Artists' Committee writes in the press release that "Mona's Moroccan-Swedish roots are reflected in her artistry, which explores identity, human behaviour, surrealism, rituals and movement as a tool for communication."
The scholarship was established by the government on Birgit Cullberg's 90th birthday in 1998 and is awarded annually by the Swedish Arts Council to a young choreographer.
