This is not how Juul had hoped to end a long career in the Norwegian foreign service, but she still believes this is the right thing to do, her lawyer Thomas Skjelbred told the channel.

Juul resigned as ambassador to Iraq and Jordan in February after it became known that Juul and her husband Terje Rød-Larsen appeared in documents related to the late, previously convicted Jeffrey Epstein. Among other things, it emerged that Epstein wanted to bequeath $10 million to the couple's two children.

Juul is suspected of serious corruption and is being investigated by the Swedish Economic Crimes Authority. The 67-year-old will retire on May 1.
