It has not been a serious fire, but the incident is classified as arson because someone threw a Molotov cocktail into the premises, says Morten Gunneng, duty officer at the police to the newspaper.

The incident is classified as arson due to the risk of spreading. However, several people were in the mosque and were able to put out the fire quickly before the rescue service arrived.

"In Sweden, everyone should feel safe and secure when exercising their religion. We can never tolerate attacks on religious buildings such as mosques, churches, and synagogues. The incident in Uddevalla is being investigated. The Ministry of Justice is in contact with the Police Authority", says Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a written comment to TT.

Over the weekend, the major Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr is taking place, celebrating the end of the fasting month that has been ongoing since the end of February.
