Carlsson has been taking a break from his hockey career since last summer after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, an intestinal disease.
When his weight dropped to 76 kilos, he needed surgery. It was performed last week, and rehabilitation now lies ahead.
It was successful, Carlsson says of the operation, adding:
I was mostly afraid that the keyhole surgery wouldn't work, because then they would have to open me up like a C-section, and my abdominal muscles would be completely destroyed.
Carlsson still hopes to play hockey again before the end of the season, but emphasizes that recovery must come first.
This needed to be done. Now I can feel that I’m better and absorbing food much better. It’s very nice.
