During Sunday's derby between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in the English second division, The Championship, a Wednesday supporter mocked the recently deceased football player George Baldock.
On his phone, the supporter wrote in large text "Where is Baldock?" and showed it to the home fans. Something that was captured on an image that quickly spread on social media.
The incident is now being investigated by local police.
"The club is aware of the image circulating on social media and condemns this despicable action. We are working closely with the Yorkshire police in an immediate investigation and want to clearly emphasize that there is no place in football or society for such reprehensible behavior", the club writes on X.
The 31-year-old spent seven years at Sheffield United. He was found dead in an outdoor pool in Greece, where he played for Panathinaikos, at the beginning of October.
